After a decade of researching and creative design work, Ceire McGinley shows us how we can manage our mental health through learning from nature’s intelligence.
Nature is brimming with tools and strategies for holistic wellness. Ceire makes this information accessible and shows us how to integrate these lessons into our lives to improve our wellbeing.
Ceire uses quantifiable and qualifiable scientific research from the natural sciences, psychology, and ancient social practices to do this. She combines lessons from nature with empirical, research-based concepts on the importance of connection, vulnerability and authenticity.

Ceire McGinley is an open-hearted and open-minded Biomimicry Specialist for Wellness and Mental Health.
And her mission is to connect us to ourselves and others, through learning from nature.
Ceire is a Certified Biomimicry Specialist through Biomimicry 3.8 (USA), with a Postgraduate degree in Biomimicry from Arizona State University. She received both her Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering with Business Management from the University of Manchester. She has spent time at the Amani Institute in Brazil studying Social Innovation Management, with IDEO (USA) learning about Design Thinking, and with the Santa Fe Institute (USA) introducing Systems Complexity.
As a pioneer in her field, she was selected to participate in a UN Global Innovation Lab for the SDGs (the Sustainable Development Goals is the largest global partnership agreement and development plan for the planet. It was agreed upon by all UN member states in 2015).
She was a scientist for Baxter Inc (USA) and a consultant for Accenture (USA) before working with accomplished charities and social organisations in the sectors of rural conflict management (Kenya), climate resilience (UK and Ghana) and the production of biodigesters (Brasil). Science expeditions and conservation efforts have taken her on adventures to unexplored areas of the world, full of wildly unique experiences.
Through her own work within Europe’s leading holistic trauma clinic, she learnt first hand about how trauma is held in the body, and the importance and beauty of connection, acceptance, and freedom. Ceire’s work has not only aided her own mental health recovery, but fuelled a passion to support others looking for internal healing. Ceire will often refer to this chapter in her life as one of the most fruitful learning experiences that she had lived through.

What is Biomimicry?
Biomimicry is learning from nature’s intelligence to solve human challenges, whilst creating conditions supportive to life.
The term “biomimicry” comes from the Greek words “bios,” meaning “life,” and “mimesis,” meaning “to imitate”. Animals, plants and microbes are highly intelligent, proficient engineers and from mimicking them we can learn how to not only survive, but how to coexist in this world sustainably.
Nature has evolved over 3.8 billion years, and is the world's largest and oldest research and development lab (R & D). What failed became fossils, and the 30 million species that survived surround us now. So any challenges that we face today, nature has already solved and validated. This is our model to a sustainable future, inclusive of resilient strategies for managing mental health. It is our world's most diverse and extensive, time-tested and accessible R&D lab.
Biomimicry for wellness is learning from nature’s processes, strategies and systems to heal our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health. We can improve our wellness by extracting lessons from social interactions in elephant herds, understanding the strategic communication of whales and dolphins, and learning about self-care from the mechanisms present in forests. Through connecting to ourselves and to nature, we are able to have more authentic and fulfilling relationships, increasing health and life satisfaction.
